Are group classes suitable for everyone?
Group classes are divided into two levels so you can train at the pace that fits your fitness level:
– beginners
– intermediate
Classes are held in small groups of up to 4 people, allowing for a personalised approach and individual attention.
*If you are attending reformer for the first time, we recommend starting with beginner group class or one-to-one session, to get familiar with the equipment and correct exercise techniques.
*In case you have mild back pain, discomfort or any other issue, talk to your instructor whether group classes are suitable for you. A private session with tailored exercises might be a better place to start than a group class. Please make sure to inform us if you have any injuries or chronic conditions.
Are one-to-one sessions suitable for everyone?
One-to-one sessions are suitable for all levels. With a program created specifically for your body, goals and abilities, you will progress more quickly.
*Please inform us if you have any injuries or severe joint pain. In such cases it is recommended to work with a kinesitherapist until your condition stabilises.
If you are unsure whether your condition is suitable for starting reformer pilates, please contact us for guidance.
What is the difference between beginner and intermediate classes?
Beginner Classes:
✓ Include basic and more easy exercises
✓ We aim to introduce you to the principles of Pilates and correct exercise techniques
✓ We provide enough challenge to strengthen your muscles effectively and gradually prepare your body for more intense and complex exercises.
Intermediate Classes:
✓ Are more intensive
✓ Include modifications of basic exercises as well as more challenging exercises that require greater coordination, balance and muscle strength
✓ These exercises require strong body awareness and confidence in using the Reformer.
*If you have prior fitness experience but are new to the reformer, we recommend starting with beginner classes, to get familiar with the reformer equipment and correct exercise techniques.
The resistance of the springs is adjustable, so you will feel the right level of challenge even during beginner exercises.
What should I wear to class?
Choose comfortable clothes, that let you move with ease.
For hygiene socks are required during classes.
Suggested outfit: leggings with a fitted top or T shirt. If possible the clothing should not be too loose to enable your instructor to see clearly and support your technique.
What is the difference between Reformer and Mat Pilates?
Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates share similar benefits – they both build strength and endurance, and improve posture and flexibility.
Reformer offers some additional benefits:
Adjustable resistance – In Mat Pilates exercises are performed on the floor using only your body weight. With the Reformer you work against spring resistance that can be adjusted – this makes exercises more effective and adaptable to your individual needs and fitness level.
More gentle on the joints – the reformer provides extra support and stability; exercises can be easily modified to create a more gradual increase in intensity.
Easier adaptation of exercises for beginners – the reformer offers full body support and stability untill you develop sufficient balance, control and endurance ensuring a smooth transition towards more advanced exercises.
Greater challenge in advanced exercises – due to the moving platform and spring resistance, advanced exercises demand extra control, balance, and strength.
If you already practice Pilates, the reformer can be an excellent addition to your Mat Pilates routine! One does not exclude the other – all forms of Pilates benefit your body, so choose the practice that best suits your needs and works best for you.
